How to Tell if Your Gold is Pure

Gold jewelry has been around for as far as I can remember.  If you have any kind of collection I am sure that a piece of gold jewelry is in that collection.

A piece of gold jewelry comes in all sizes and shapes you have the gold earrings, the gold necklaces, the gold cuffs and the gold studs just to name a few.

If the ring on your finger has 18K, 14K or 10K with the K standing for Carat inside your ring, chances are you are wearing pure gold.  When you go to buy gold jewelry, the most important thing to know is how pure is your gold.

The higher the Carat number, the higher the percentage of gold an item contains.

24K = Pure Gold

18K = 18 Parts Gold and 6 Parts of one or more metals making it 75% gold.

14K = 14 Parts gold 10 parts of one or more additional metals making it 58.5% gold.

12K = 12 parts gold and 12 parts of one or more metals making it 50% gold.

10K = 10 parts gold 14 parts of one or more metals making it 41.7% gold 10K is the minimum Carat.
